John and Margaret Gorman organised the 2013 annual reunion on the Isle of Wight (the second time they have organised a reunion event) which took place on the weekend of 11th, 12th, and 13th October 2013.
Most attendees arrived at the Lakeside Hotel on the Friday, although some had taken the opportunity to spend extra time on the island to explore the many attractions that are available—most notably Osborne House, formally Queen Victoria’s palace where she lived with her beloved Prince Albert and their nine children.
We assembled as usual in the bar before the reunion dinner on the Saturday evening and we had the pleasure of meeting a very spritely Walter Forster, a guest of Roger Bradley, who is ex-39th Entry. Walter flew Mosquitoes and Wellingtons in the 2nd World War and after the war flew Spitfires, Vampires and Hunters.
The dinner was excellent, served in a private room. The after dinner entertainment was a casino night with prizes for those winning the most tokens. The croupiers were lovely young ladies who attracted those who would not normally gamble to the tables!
After thanking John and Margaret for a great reunion, we bade our fond farewells on the Sunday morning and headed for the ferry back to the mainland.
